After eight weeks of thrilling cricket, packed out crowds, and unforgettable moments, the 2025 Varistha Premier League reaches its crescendo on Friday, 18th July 2025 in Cheltenham Cricket Festival. This year’s final sees two quality sides go head-to-head: the league leaders Bourton Vale Vikings, and the relentless Tewkesbury Royals, who’ve battled their way through the tournament with grit and determination. This is a clash of Consistency vs Persistence, Precision vs Pressure. Two teams with an eye on their first league title but only one can lift the trophy.

Bourton Vale Vikings – The Team to Beat Bourton Vale Vikings have looked a cut above the rest all season. They finished top of the league with six wins from seven, powered by consistent top-order performances, a dynamic bowling attack, and rock-solid fielding. Their +1.98 net run rate was the highest in the competition, proof of just how dominant they’ve been.

In Qualifier 1, the Vikings were pitted against Hatherley Hurricanes who had inflicted their only defeat of the group stage. Will Faulkner produced a sensational spell, taking 4 wickets, backed by superb catching from Danny Way, Liam Webb, and Ollie Lockey in the field. The energy and discipline from the entire squad suffocated Hatherley’s efforts and set the tone for the game. Opening pair Musa Twala and Arthur Hanson got the innings off to a flyer scoring 70 off 58 balls between them, combining controlled aggression with smart running to begin the chase of Hatherley’s 133 runs. Their efforts helped chase down the total but not without losing 6 wickets and eventually winning the game with five balls to spare. Tewkesbury Royals – The Road Warriors While Bourton cruised into the final, despite an enthralling qualifier 1, Tewkesbury Royals had to earn it the hard way, and they did so in impressive style. After finishing fourth in the group stage, the Royals entered the knockouts via Eliminator 1, where they faced Dumbleton. In a must-win clash, the Royals delivered with both bat and ball. Joshua Richards led the charge with a typically aggressive innings, in a game that demanded composure, the royals captain, Louis Whitmore, stood tall and won the game for his team to get the job done and advance to Qualifier 2. That set up a high-stakes battle against the Hurricanes, who had narrowly lost to Bourton a week before. But it was Tewkesbury who rose to the occasion. With wickets falling around him, Richards played the innings of the match, calm under pressure, clinical with his stroke play, and ultimately the difference between the two sides- hitting his 3rd hundred of the campaign. Tewkesbury did just enough to see off a lacklustre Hurricanes, sealing their spot in the final and setting up an enthralling final against the Vale Vikings. The Final Showdown

This isn’t just a match, it’s a clash of two narratives.

Friday, 18 July 2025 Bourton Vale Vikings have been the most complete side all season. They’ve set the benchmark with their balance, execution, and squad depth. Tewkesbury Royals, on the other hand, have played fearless, backs-to-the-wall cricket in the knockouts, gaining belief with every game. Will the Vikings finish the job and crown their dominant season with silverware? Or will the Royals write their own fairy-tale ending?
