Girls Under 15 Falkland Cricket Club 105 / 2 (12) 20 pts
Girls U15 Jaguars Slough CC 101 / 8 (20) 5 pts

Big win for the U15s

Friday evening on the main ground saw Berkshire’s top two U15 girls’ teams renew their fierce rivalry in another highly anticipated encounter. Slough won the toss and elected to bat first, something they have done in all their league matches this year with great success.

Maya opened the bowling with real pace and accuracy, narrowly missing the stumps on more than one occasion. Lucy M was second up and produced a beautiful over, which included an inswinger that clean bowled the Slough opener. Slough were 3–1 after two overs.

A great partnership then followed as the pair added 62 runs. The Falkland fielding was strong, with fielders in all the key positions, making running between the wickets challenging. The next three wickets to fall were run outs, with Lucy W, Lucy M and Daisy all producing great fielding to dismiss the batters. Slough were 83–4 in the 11th over.

Wickets then started to fall at a quick rate, and the captain began to set aggressive fields, including deploying slip fielders. Amelia bowled well and conceded only four runs from her three overs, while Isabel, behind the stumps, produced a wicketkeeping masterclass against some very quick bowling. Lucy and Maya then returned to wipe out the tail, and Slough finished on 101 all out.

Falkland needed to bat well against Slough’s attack which, although missing some of their quicker bowlers, was still going to be strong.

Amelia and Lucy M opened the batting and were positive from the outset, with good running between the wickets and brilliant boundary hitting. Slough had no answer to them, with our girls scoring at more than 10 runs an over. The first wicket fell in the third over, with Amelia beaten by a well-flighted delivery after scoring 17. Falkland were 32–1.

Grace joined Lucy M, but the next over saw Lucy fall too, caught brilliantly in the deep for 11. Falkland were 32–2.
Izzy joined Grace at the crease, and the two girls batted beautifully, playing the straight balls well while attacking the wider deliveries. They hit four boundaries each as they put on a match-winning partnership of 73 runs. Grace finished on 29 not out and Izzy on 24 not out.

This was a big win for our girls, achieved with eight overs still remaining. I thought the fielding was particularly good from everyone, and I was pleased to hear so much encouragement and support while we were in the field. Thanks again for all the support from the sidelines. I’m sure you enjoyed watching that performance.
