Male under 14’s Consett & District Rugby Club 38 38 pts
Blaydon RFC Blaydon RFC 21 21 pts

U14 start with a Win

On a blustery morning, both Consett and Blaydon players stood shoulder-to-shoulder before kick-off to observe a minute’s silence in memory of Mel Spratt. The respectful tribute set the tone for a contest played in great spirit.

Consett burst out of the blocks, with Max Foster powering over for the opening try, converted by Monty Copeland (7-0). Will McGeorge then showcased his finishing ability with back-to-back tries—one converted by Copeland—to extend the lead to 19-0, before completing a first-half hat-trick to make it 24-0. Blaydon rallied just before the break with a converted try of their own, narrowing the margin to 24-7 at half-time.

Blaydon struck again early in the second half, bringing the score to 24-14, but Consett regrouped quickly. Max Chalmers dotted down and Copeland added the extras (31-14). McGeorge wasn’t done yet, scoring his fourth of the day to push Consett further ahead at 38-14. Blaydon showed real fight to claim a late converted try, but Consett’s defence stood firm to seal a well-earned 38-21 victory.

A special mention to Louis Snowball starting at hooker took numerous balls against the head in the scrum. The whole squad played their part, but Player of the Match went to Max Foster, whose early try and relentless work-rate set the standard for Consett’s performance.

Both sides left the pitch with pride intact, having delivered a thrilling encounter.
