Consett U14s 70 – 24 Northern U14s
After last week’s strong win over Blaydon, Consett U14s carried their momentum into another impressive performance, this time away to Northern.
The game started at blistering pace, with tries from Will McGeorge (50 seconds), Max Forster (twice in quick succession), and Hendo all converted by the faultless boot of Monty Copeland to make it 0–28 within the first seven minutes. Haydn added another on 15 minutes before Harry Chapman powered over on 18 minutes, again converted by Copeland, to extend the lead to 0–42. Northern showed their character by hitting back with a try on 22 minutes, but McGeorge soon replied with his second of the match, giving Consett a commanding 5–49 lead at half-time.
Northern came out fighting after the break, scoring three unanswered tries between the 37th and 42nd minute to reduce the deficit to 24–56. Consett steadied themselves, though, with Harry Chapman grabbing his second try and Forster completing his hat-trick in the closing stages, both converted by Copeland to round off a convincing 24–70 victory.
There were stand-out performances across the park. Northern’s choice for Player of the Match was Monty Copeland, who not only pulled the strings in attack but also kicked a perfect ten conversions from ten. Consett’s coaches recognised Harry Chapman for his tireless work rate and two well-taken tries, awarding him their Coaches’ Player of the Match.
This was another fine display of attacking rugby from Consett, who showed both flair and determination, with every player contributing to a memorable win.
